The process begins with Transformation Groups of 4-8 people learning how to live and listen to God, ultimately transitioning into Group Spiritual Direction.
The Starting Point: Living and Listening to God will look like practicing some creative methods and might include: lectio-divina, journaling, prayer walks, guided meditations, centering prayer, breath prayer, and more. They are building blocks that will lead the group into Group Spiritual Direction.
What is Group Spiritual Direction and why is it important? My 25 years of experience has been that it cultivates the riches and depth of faith within leaders. Group Spiritual Direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to offer support to one another on their spiritual journey. Each group will meet regularly for 2-hour sessions with four to five other participants twice a month to start and eventually once a month.
Each session will include a rhythm of prayerful silence and meditation, personal sharing by participants, followed by prayerful responses to what each participant shares. You will experience a deep sense of intentional community going deeper into a relationship with God and a deepened awareness of God’s Spirit at work in your own life as you witness God’s presence in the lives of others in your group.
Group Spiritual Direction is simply a relationship through which 3-4 persons assist one another in attending to the presence and call of God in all of life.God is constantly working in our ordinary, everyday routines and life circumstances. Group spiritual direction is one way to help us pay attention to God’s work in our lives and experience the presence of God. Through Group Spiritual Direction individuals will have a clearer sense of God’s presence, calling, and vision in their lives and likely in the life of their church.
